We see two McNeary families at Mettican, near and northwest of Garvagh

We see two McNeary families at Mettican around 1800, those of John, just two generations, and of Reynold or Ronald, six generations to now.


Source of this John's family  is a headstone at the Church of Ireland at Garvagh|

John McNeary  Jr. Headstone, probably a nephew of the John above

The second family is first found through the marriage of John Mcneary of Mettican, son of Reynold or Ronald, to Mary Jane Kane at the Aghadowey Presbyterian Church. Their son John Jr. married Agnes Boyd of Ballintemple.  From John and Agnes' headstone at the Ballylagan Reformed Presbyterian Church, we have information on sons Samuel and Matthew Woodburn McNeary, and Rose Gilmore McNeary, as well as Rose's two children who died in infancy, Samuel and Margaret.  It is assumed that Samuel married Rose Gilmore, and that  John (Jack) McNeary was their son.   John and Agnes also children Agnes Eleanor and Jane Elizabeth McNeary. Agnes (Nancy) settled in Australia and had child and grandchild.
     We have a note that Samuel married Rose Lynd in 1930 at Ballyclabber, yet Rose Gilmore McNeary is shown on headstone.
